With the now released, I picked up the set for the PlayStation 5 and the Switch in Japan. While it’s a nice collection, there are an awful lot of downloads.

Firstly, I haven’t played the international release of this collection as I am based in Japan. So this may or may not be relevant to you, but the Japanese versions of this set have opted to have all the additional languages as separate downloads within the games themselves.

Furthermore, the additional and extra content application that comes with the set has a mighty amount of additional downloads for the digital comics.

I don’t know why Konami went down this route, but it’s a weird setup. There’s also an extra thing where the first Metal Gear Solid in this set has its menu selection buttons flipped to the old Japanese layout, despite your system settings.

This may be a bug, and there are for each of the games, but it’s a funny collection all told.

In that, and are of the HD remasters handled by those peerless geniuses at . These are great remasters and feature much of the extra content from the variety of follow-on releases for each of them.

MORE FOR YOU

However, the original is just straight up emulated, although admittedly by the great people at M2.

The lack of an HD remaster of the first Metal Gear Solid is a glaring omission here and is surely long overdue. That said the inclusion of is much appreciated, as that is by far my favorite rendition of the first game.

The addition of would have also been nice, but my guess is that there must be some rights issues tied up with it. As we haven’t seen that re-released at all since its 2004 debut on the GameCube.

To be fair, Twin Snakes did mess up how Metal Gear Solid operated, as the first person aiming setup from Metal Gear Solid 2 straight up broke the game’s entire level design. So not having it re-released is maybe a good thing after all.

In the meantime, I am heading back to to find out what happened to that Hind D.
